This is particularly useful because there is confusion with posts on the internet from years ago where the UDP Timeout setting in the GUI was understood to be Assured UDP Timeout, and Unreplied UDP Timeout apparently defaulted to 65. Unreplied UDP Timeout (default 120, editable in GUI as "UDP Timeout"): /proc/sys/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_conntrack_udp_timeoutĪssured UDP Timeout (default 180, not in GUI): /proc/sys/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_conntrack_udp_timeout_stream So for recent ddwrt, it looks like we can conclude: The suggestion to inspect /proc/net/ip_conntrack seems to support the above suspicion that the GUI setting is Unreplied: I have them set at 10 and 180 right now for reasons mentioned above, but it is surprisingly difficult to ascertain precisely which UDP Timeouts to which they correspond. The defaults for cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_conntrack_udp_timeout* appear to be 120 and 180. Thank you Is there a way to be sure which is Unreplied and which is Assured? I wanted to get some feedback from ddwrt experts and hope this info is useful to other VOIP users.Īlso, could someone running a recent BS build post the output of Code:Ĭat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_conntrack_udp_timeout*Īnd confirm which of the two corresponds to Administration -> Management -> IP Filter Settings -> UDP Timeout ? Otherwise, everything seems to function well. I recently just made the change to the UDP timeout in ddwrt from the default of 120s due to the ATA sometimes failing to register after power interruptions and needing to be rebooted. SIP Registration Retry Interval (in ATA): 300s (suggested by VOIP provider tech support) UDP (Assured?) Timeout (ddwrt): 180 (from /proc/sys/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_conntrack_udp_timeout_stream ?) UDP (Unreplied?) Timeout (ddwrt router and AP): 10s (default 120s) I'm using a different VOIP provider, but right now to respect the above equation with minimal changes, I have set: I use 17 for UDP Unreplied Timeout and 117 for UDP Assured Timeout. The SIP Registration Failure Retry Wait Time is 120. Apparently, Mikrotik routers also allow users to change both Assured and Unreplied UDP timeout settings as well. Note that I will not be held accountable any damage resulting from failed firmware updates. So if your router supports Tomato firmware, that may be another option. My understanding is that third party Tomato firmware has these two settings as well. UDP Unreplied Timeout (in your router) Tools->Other settings. Thanks to Mango, many of us now understand that in order for ATAs to remain registered and working properly with a VoIP SIP provider like Freephoneline, in particular after power failures, the following conditions must be met: This post is so well-explained and useful that I feel compelled to quote a portion: These questions are motivated by posts for configuring timeout and keepalive values in routers and ATAs to work well with VOIP, particularly for recovering from power failures, as well as avoiding intermittent failure of incoming calls due to timed-out ports. Why does a device (using Kong r40270M) in AP mode have TCP/UDP timeout settings, and connections listed (Status -> Router -> Active IP connections)? Isn't this handled just by the router? How can I objectively observe/determine if a timeout is causing issues?ĥ. Is 10s UDP Unreplied timeout going to cause problems? Many sources recommend more than 30-60s but it's not clear if that's for Unreplied or Assured timeout. Is there a GUI setting for UDP Assured timeout in ddwrt? Is it also /proc/sys/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_conntrack_udp_timeout_stream ?ģ. Does UDP timeout (under Administration -> Management) correspond to UDP Unreplied timeout? This setting corresponds to /proc/sys/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_conntrack_udp_timeoutĢ. Posted: Sun 6:14 Post subject: (UDP) Timeouts for VOIPġ.
